For no particular reason, I’ve decided to go twitterless this week. Cold turkey. No twitter – reading, checking, searching, tweeting – between this morning and Friday afternoon. I’ve been thinking about how much of my time is spent with twitter, either actively or in the background, during a day so part of this experiment will be to see how much extra time I find I have during my day. I’ve used Slife (now a paid web app, but the desktop client has gone open source and is available from Slife’s Google Code repository) once to monitor my twitter time and the results were not exactly shocking, but the trend was not good.
So – a week without twitter. I’m wondering how similar this will be to quitting smoking. Hopefully the headaches and insomnia will not be part of the experience. I’m also wondering how many readers I’ll get for this blog without announcing new posts on Twitter. If RSS is truly dead, then my traffic count will show it. If you would take the time to leave a comment letting me know how you came across this post, I’d be very interested to see the cumulative results.
I’ll keep you posted on the results of my experiment throughout the week.
RSS is not dead – I caught your blog post although I had also noted your twitter post about your break. Hmmm…. I’d experience information withdrawal if I went twitterless of a week. Good luck Rob!

There is no late on the interwebs – it just depends on when you check your RSS aggregator. I’m just glad to know that people keep up the old fashioned way.
