Eudaemonia
I first heard the word Eudaemonia in Rick Schwier’s keynote presentation at TLT Summit 2008, and it immediately captured my attention. I even mentioned that I wanted to write some more about that keynote. I guess the idea of eudaimonia has been bouncing around in my head ever since and now I’ve finally come to write out that reflection on Rick’s presentation. Of course, since it has been so long, I’ve probably deeply confabulated all that Rick said. Luckily Rick’s slide deck for the presentation is available online as is Alec’s ustream recording of Rick’s keynote. As an aside, I’ve noticed that I often get good ideas for blog posts at times when I have lots of marking to do. Interesting … So – back to eudaemonia. It’s a Greek word and often used in the discussion of ethics by … Continue reading
The Posse with Howard Rheingold
We – Alec, Dean, Rick and I (Heather was in the midst of moving to a new house) were fortunate enough to be joined by Howard Rheingold for our latest podcast – EdTech Posse Podcast 5.6 – In conversation with Howard Rheingold. As you would expect with someone who has the breadth of knowledge, experience and interests as Howard, the conversation brought many threads together.
Hosting change
I’ve been having a lot of problems lately with the hosting of my blog. First, there have been many times when I couldn’t access the blog from work or home. Although my web hosting company was very supportive trying to help me with this, the problem was with my ISP, not them. My ISP has been unsuccessful in resolving this problem. Also, I’ve picked up several fans of my blog from Russia and China. They are so enthusiastic in their support of my blog that they have caused my bandwidth usage to spike over the past two months. My attempts to curb their excessive attention has turned into a tedious game of whack-a-mole using IP denials instead of a mallet. If it would help I would use the mallet – it would, at least, give me some visceral sense of … Continue reading
EdTech Posse Podcast 5.5 – Teaching beyond the limits of space and time
I’ve been inspired by Dean and Alec‘s presentation “The Lazy Professor” [slideshare id=1358950&doc=lazyprofessors-090428143419-phpapp02] Inspired by their example, I’ve decided to be as lazy as possible as I prepare to teach some undergrad education students this summer at the University of Saskatchewan. Dean and Alec shared many good ideas that I’ll be sure to incorporate as I prepare for the course. I also asked Dean to record the conversation, then he volunteered to do some post-production so we could release the conversation as a podcast. I think I’m getting the hang of this lazy concept, and I have to admit I’m kind of liking it. Enjoy the latest EdTech Posse Podcast – Teaching Outside the Limits of Space and Time
