Lessons learned in Waskesiu
Note to self – when going on vacation to a beautiful lake with many opportunities for stunning photographs, take extra batteries for the camera!
I have managed to take a few nice sunset photos tonight, but just as I was setting up for a nice shot of some kids playing silhouetted in the sunset, the battery gave up on me. D’oh! I’m not sure if the picture was taken or not.
The ironic part of this story is that I was looking at the battery charger as I was packing up for the vacation, but thought to myself “N’ah – I think the batteries are still good.” When I went to Canadian Tire to ask if I could get a replacement U-bolt for the rooftop cargo carrier on our car, I thought to myself “Maybe I should pick up some extra batteries … just in case.” I looked in the grocery/general stores in the town, but none had AA batteries left.
Moral of the story – listen to that inner voice when it tells you “Maybe you should …”
Postscript – We went into town for picnic and afternoon at the beach. Before we ate, we ambled around to some of the other stores to see if they had any AA batteries. We eventually found them at the gas station. I would never have thought to check at the gas station, but I suppose no one else had either hence they still had batteries in stock. Along the way we checked a couple of interesting shops that we had never stopped in previously, so the search for batteries yielded some positive side effects. Second moral of the story – sometimes being forced to search for something leads to serendipitous results!
