I just finished an abortive attempt at recording a conversation with Rick Schwier for the next podcast. After a couple of abortive attempts, we deferred the conversation until Saturday when we can sit down face to face.
That also means I’m back to square one for recording skype calls for podcasts. If all else fails, I can take recordings at both ends of the conversation, then patch them together in an audio editor. Any ideas?
If I were attempting to record a Skype conversation, I think the best way would be to use a combination of LineIn and WireTap. LineIn allows you “to play sound through a microphone or any other device plugged in to your Sound In port.” WireTap “allows you to record any audio playing on your Mac, saving it to a file for later listening or processing.” I would think that by using these two in conjunction, you’d be able to get both sides of the conversation saved. The only concern might be with feedback, but that could likely be solved by using headphones.
Hope that helps,
Dan
Sadly, Dan, I am using Win XP. But I think its time I return back to the fold, especially after I saw the new mini-Mac! ;^)
It is easy. And fool proof. Extreme quality…

Thanks for the link, Bill. I had found this when I was googling around on the problem, but its always good to get someone’s personal recommendation. I think I might give this a try – stay tuned for the results!
